In July 2022, I saw a podiatrist from my insurance group for a bump on my right big toe. After an X-ray, they diagnosed it as a bone spur and recommended an MTPJ fusion, which would permanently prevent my toe from bending. Unwilling to give up heels and impacting my workout routine, I declined and managed the pain with larger shoes and rubbing Voltaren on my toe when I had to wear heels. Fast forward to February this year (2025), I decided to seek a specialist and found Dr. Yu. From the moment she walked in, her bright, friendly demeanor put me at ease. After confirming the bone spur, she assured me that my joint was still mobile and that fusion wasn’t necessary. Instead, she recommended a cheilectomy, a minimally invasive procedure to shave down the spur—no general anesthesia required. When we discussed the procedure, Dr. Yu informed me that my insurance wouldn’t cover her performing it and I would have to pay out of pocket. However, she suggested I go back to my previous doctor on my insurance and request a cheilectomy instead of a fusion, showing incredible integrity even though she could have lost my business. That honesty and care made my decision easy—I chose Dr. Yu. On surgery day, she explained everything step by step and even let me pick the music to listen to during the procedure (Bossa Nova!). A week later, she removed my stitches and confirmed my healing is going great! In a few weeks, I'll be back in sneakers, and soon after, heels! Most importantly, I have full movement in my big toe again and even did a few lunges today ( shh..don’t tell her as I was not cleared to work out) I can't recommend Dr. Yu and her team enough. For the past six years I have gone to 4 different doctors for my foot pain. I’ve been told I have arthritis and basically nothing could be done other than steroid shots, a Pilates class and pain pills! Then I decided to go to Dr. Jenny because she took such good care of my 92 year old father. Dr Jenny said steroid shots were not right for me because of bad headaches that I would get after the shots. The pain on the top of my foot was the worse, I had a knot that was very painful to touch. In the past been I had been told by other doctors that it was soft tissue that was causing that pain, but was never given any explanation of what caused it or what could be done…take a pill was the usual response! I was also having pain in my toes and one toe was actually crooked going under my other toe. It’s the arthritis, other doctors told me! Dr.Jenny said, “I can fix that!” that she could straighten the toe to relieve the pain also shorten the metatarsal because that toe was longer than the others. I am happy to say my toes no longer hurt, the knot is gone and the pain on top of my foot has also gone away. She explained that shortening the toe relieved the pressure of the tendons, which was the soft tissue others had been talking about. Dr. Jenny is very professional, so sweet and easy to talk to, she explains everything and tries to find solutions other than pills. The staff are also so kind. I recommend that if you have foot problems this is the office to go to! This was my 2nd Visit to Dr. Jenny Yu. The 1st was 6-7 Years ago for new orthotics. This was the reason for my latest visit 11/21/2023. This is not your typical Doctor visit, which now seems as going to the Doctor is drive thru medical. Doctor Jenny is so personable and knowledgeable. ( of course she is. She is a doctor. A great one at that) She treats you as an individual and a unique patient, as we all are right? I do not believe any of us are exactly alike. Maybe with the same issues but definitely not as patients. The environment she creates is so comfortable and the diagnosis and the treatments, (or lack there of treatments) are discussed, outlined and for us as patients to review, ask and decide on the best course of action. I am a member of a healthcare network and to get the proper care and diagnosis other than a referral, maybe x-rays and a ton of PT. I have to leave the network for outstanding Doctors like Dr. Jenny. What good is PT, after PT if I can barely walk or my toe needs surgery to remove the pain and correct the issues. That makes no sense. As soon as Dr Jenny examined me, knowing I was looking for new orthotics, she saw my big toe and says wow, that must really hurt? You probably can't bend that? I said it hurts a lot. She says I can fix that. I said wow. Great. All I hear from the healthcare network is that I have arthritis. Well don't we all? No fix, no nothing. Just arthritis. So they Say. She explained it to me, explained the process, and I made the decision to move forward with minor surgery and have her fix it. This is no longer the case in our so called great society. Responsibility and doctors that will go the extra mile, spend more time with their patients, advise them of what can or cannot be done, and take care of them as individuals.( There are some out there who still do, but most do not from my experiences and talking with others that are close to me) Not as healthcare networks do. Maybe, if you're lucky you will get 5- minutes with your doctor. very little, to no conversation, or diagnosis, and then a trip to the pharmacy for some poison that we have no idea what it even is, or does. Dr Jenny is the way Doctors used to be and she continues to build her own legacy. She is the real deal in the Podiatry world. I look so forward to my upcoming foot/toe fix and another visit to be diagnosed and corrected the way healthcare professionals should, and do with all of their patients. Don't ever change what you are doing Dr. Jenny. Stay the course. Slow, steady, always informative, and honest as you have always been with me and I'm sure all of your patients. New and old.
